I saw both Network (1976) and Magic (1978) upon their original releases, but was robbed of seeing the bare nipples of Faye Dunaway and the right nipple of Ann-Margret due to faulty projection and aspect ratio difficulties...

When I was in school the book "In the Heat of the Night" was part of the curriculum. The class a year ahead of us got to see the Norman Jewison adaption of the novel. The older students commented on how Quentin Dean has such nice breasts (this was the era where PG rated movies can have nudity). Sadly when the movie as released to video her breasts were blocked by the window sills. Was this movie edited?

As with the contemporaneous Bonnie & Clyde, you couldn't actually see anything in the theatrical version. The video version of B&C, at least, was edited, as I recall, and contains a slightly better look at Faye Dunaway than was shown theatrically. I'm not sure if it includes any actual exposure, however, as TCM is the only place I've seen either movie in 40 years. (Back in '67 Newsweek commented that Hollywood was "showing its starlets stripped to the waist" in movies, citing Bonnie and Heat, but the actual delivery was a bit of a disappointment.)

One movie in this category for me is Killing of Sister George, which some friends and I caught on Buck a Carload Tuesday at the drive-in. The notorious lesbian scene was damn near invisible. After seeing the movie on TCM a couple years ago, my conclusion is that the projectionist had been instructed to dim the bulb for the scene. (Unlike the fleeting frame here, frame there stuff in the pix above, this one was an actual scene that went on a little.)

The Killing of Sister George
has one of the great scenes n movie history. It is lit in what is called "high key" lighting, which is the opposite of what you would think that it would mean. The scene is dark, with the light source coming from one side only. The other side is in shadows.

The scene features Susannah York and Coral Browne - Mrs. Vincent Price, believe it or not.

As you can see here, it is definitely bright enough to see what's going on.

She's not that bad looking. Not everyone can look like Heather Locklear at 55.

The movie, Red Sky at Morning, a movie about life in New Mexico, came out in the early 1970's. In 1975, my junior high school decided to show it to the students. First the 7th graders saw it, then the 8th graders. Then, the school decided not to show it to the 9th graders because of a (artistic) nude scene that lasted all of two seconds.

Incensed, the 9th graders walked out of class and did a sit in protest on the football field. Eventually, the school board caved, giving a dance for 9th graders only.

In 1986, the movie Can't Buy Me Love came out. In the movie, there's a scene where Devin DeVasquez opens her shirt and lets Patrick Dempsey play with her chest puppies. You can see her puppies in the theatrical release and in the first edition of he VHS video. Second and subsequent editions, as well as the DVD, have the scene cropped so that you don't see her puppies.

The real irony here is that she was Playmate of the Month for the month that the movie came out. It was the last time bunnymag was relevant.

This belongs in "CNdb Help Line". It has much fewer postings so it won't drop off the next day.
